- Jagged leaf edges - apple weevil
- 'Shot holes' in leaves - garden weevils
- A number of insects may damage young vines
- Pink cutworm and various weevils eat vines at night, then shelter during the day. Beetles and grasshoppers sometimes chew leaves.
Pests elsewhere in this section may also damage young vines.
ACTION **If chewing damage is seen, monitor vines every seven days from budburst till mid-season **At budburst, check a spade full of soil near the base of damaged vines for weevil larvae or emerging adults **During the day, lightly scrape the soil at the base of damaged vines to find cutworm larvae or adult weevils **During the night, look for cutworms or weevils eating leaves **Pitfall traps in the ground help detect African black beetle
