   LOOK FOR

    Look for in shoots
  • Dead tips on shortened shoots with a bluish hue.
  • Shoots that remain rubbery and may develop small (< 1 mm) raised black pustules near the base

    Look for in leaves
  • Yellow patches on downward curled leaves that overlap each other and fall prematurely

    Look for in bunches
  • Bunches that shrivel and die from flowering onward. On Chardonnay, individual berries tend to shrivel

   CONDITIONS

  • More prevalent in warm inland regions on Chardonnay and Riesling
  • Monitor for Australian Grapevine Yellows (AGY) from flowering to berry softening.

   NOTES

Symptoms usually develop on single or adjacent shoots, on one or more arms of a vine. Symproms should be present on leaves, shoots and bunches before AGY is suspected.
AGY can be confirmed by laboratory testing.

AGY causes bunches and shoot tips to die. The leaves will fall prematurely AGY causes bunches to shrivel and fall from flowering onwards AGY shoots fail to harden, and they develop black pustules at the base. The yellow curled leaf contrasts with healthy new growth after hot weather
